Fightin'Words?

GIVEN THAT WE ARE ABOUT to entertain another divisive referendum on the future of Quebec (and, thus, of Canada), it is prudent that we not engage in premature, possibly inflammatory speculation on the potential location of the borders of a would-be sovereign Quebec. Yet, in "Spirits in the Sky" (November), his review of gift books, John Oughton states, with admirable sang-froid, that Gatineau Park is a "beautiful part of Ontario." Careful: them could be fightin' words.

Roamin' Numerals

WHEN I OPENED YOUR FEBRUARY 1995 issue, I was astonished to see a blatant error on page 3 that read as follows: Volume XXIIII, Number 1, which of course should be Volume XXIV, Number 1. I wonder if you have been inundated with letters about this error. It also occurred to me that perhaps the Roman numeral system had been changed since my school days?
